January in Paris is not only filled with snow and lovers, but many models, designers, bloggers and fashionistas who crave front row seats to the best runway shows on earth. The first couple of months have been busy for parisian and international designers, presenting us with their Haute Couture collections for spring/summer 2014 and the RTW Fall collections as well. Among the most popular Couture (and favorites of mine) are Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad, Chanel and Valentino.

I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with Haute Couture collections. There’s the side of me that squeals in joy and utter amazement at the beautiful pieces of art walking down the runway, but then I start thing about wearability and I can’t help but sigh. (By ‘wearability’ I mean how and where those pieces transfer to every day life, if those outfits could actually be seen -and work- outside the catwalk.) Despite these collections being haute couture, most of the designers showed us very wearable pieces that make a statement but are still feminine, fresh and edgy.

Raf Simons (creative director at Dior) combined angled cuts, transparencies and abstract designs but managed to make them soft and feminine by adding layers combined with lace and beautiful embroideries.

Chanel was a pleasant surprise. It was full of white, silver and sneakers. There were no high heels in this collection but that only made me love it even more. The wild hair and funky eye make up complemented the simplicity of the color palette. Most outfits were white, silver or various shades of pastels. My favorite thing is still the sneakers, but the various versions of the famous staple Chanel jacket were a close second.

Now, let’s talk Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad. *double sigh*
Elie Sabb is my all time favorite designer. He never ceases to amaze me. Zuhair comes a very close second. Their “style” is similar but so different at the same time. We saw draping, we saw EXQUISITE beading, we saw vivid colors, we saw amazing couture. Most, if not all the designs, are red carpet worthy.

Which outfits are your favorite or would like to the see on the red carpet?

PS: As you all may know, “Fashion Month”, as I like to call it, is in full swing and I’ll be sharing my thoughts and favorite outfits at the end of each week- starting with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York City. There’s also London Fashion Week that ends today, followed by Milan Fashion Week after that and we finish off with Paris Fashion Week. Lots of exciting things, so stay tuned!
